WEST NILE VIRUS FOUND IN MOSQUITOES, BIRDS IN ST. CHARLES PARISH, ONE HUMAN CASE CONFIRMED

The Louisiana Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory has confirmed mosquito and bird blood samples as positive for WEST NILE ENCEPHALITIS in St. Rose, Destrehan, Luling, Ama, Hahnville, New Sarpy, Boutte, Taft, Des Allemands and Paradis. There has also been a confirmed human case in Luling. Mosquito Control Inc. personnel have increased spraying and other abatement measures in the area. All residents are urged to avoid mosquito bites by avoiding being outside at dawn and dusk, wearing pants and long sleeves and using insect repellant containing DEET. To eradicate mosquito breeding sites, be sure to dump out standing water. For more information, visit dhh.louisiana.gov.
