Climate - St. Charles Parish enjoys a complete seasonal cycle with beautiful spring and fall seasons. Louisiana’s pleasant climate throughout the year gives way to a variety of year round sporting activity. Winter months are usually mild with cold spells of short duration: the average January temperature is 54 degrees Fahrenheit. The summer months are quite warm, with an average daily temperature in July of 82 degrees Fahrenheit. Annual precipitation averages 54 inches.
Medical Services - St. Charles Parish Hospital, located in Luling with 59 beds, and the St. Charles Community Health Center, a federally qualified health center, provide skilled medical care for the residents of the parish. A large number of regional facilities, including Thibodaux Regional Medical Center, Ochsner Medical Center-Kenner, River Parishes Hospital, and St. James Parish Hospital offer excellent medical care alternatives. Also, residents have access to the vast supply of medical services in the New Orleans area.
Parks - St. Charles Parish, laced by swamps, bayous, and lakes, and bisected by the Mississippi River, is a natural for water sports of all kinds from fishing and swimming to water skiing, sailing and boat riding. In addition, numerous parks and playgrounds located throughout the parish feature baseball, softball and football programs.
Recreation - There is an abundance of recreational activities available to local residents. Resources include ball fields, country clubs, golf courses, swimming pools, and tennis courts.
Libraries - The St. Charles Parish Library System has six branches within the parish. The approximate number of volumes is 160,000 with 500 additions per month. The facilities offer reading and reference materials including periodicals, films, and audio materials.

Festivals - At several of the festivals held throughout the year in the parish, Cajun bands set feet a dancing, and frequent demonstrations of traditional crafts provide insight into the unique and colorful history of the area. Festivals include the Catfish Festival, held in July, the Alligator Festival, held in September, and the Destrehan Plantation Fall Festival featuring works of talented artisans and craftspeople from the area and beyond. In addition, local churches also have fairs scheduled throughout the year, giving residents and visitors many more opportunities to see just what South Louisiana is all about.
